Since 2019, and thanks to the support from the European Commission, OpenNebula Systems has been leading the edge computing innovation in Europe, investing heavily in research and open source development, and playing a key role in strategic EU initiatives such as the IPCEI-CIS and the “European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud”.
We are currently looking for a Cloud-Edge Systems Architecture Advisor (Contractor) to come and join us in Europe as part of our new team developing the next generation management platform for the Cloud-Edge Computing Continuum.
Objective
The Cloud Systems Architecture Advisor provides strategic and technical guidance in the design and evolution of cloud infrastructure solutions. Unlike a hands-on systems architect, the advisor role emphasizes mentorship, oversight, and high-level design decisions, ensuring that cloud and edge architectures are aligned with project objectives, business priorities, and industry best practices.
Advisors work closely with project stakeholders, technical teams, and external partners to translate functional needs into scalable, secure, and future-proof architectures. They bring not only strong technical expertise but also market awareness, supporting the identification of new opportunities, partnerships, and innovations across the cloud-edge continuum.
Scope

Services
- Advisory on Architecture Design: Guide the definition of functional/system requirements and use-case analyses, ensuring designs meet scalability, performance, and compliance needs.
- Cloud-Edge Roadmapping: Define the architecture roadmap, identify suitable technologies, and oversee the prototyping of integrated cloud-edge solutions.
- Interface & API Strategy: Advise on the design of APIs, data formats, and interoperability mechanisms to ensure modular and extensible architectures.
- Technology Selection & Validation: Recommend appropriate cloud services, open-source tools, and infrastructure technologies; review documentation, design diagrams, and prototypes.
- Ecosystem Engagement: Act as an evangelist and advisor in the promotion of solutions within relevant user segments; participate in conferences, exhibitions, and standards discussions.
- Collaboration: Work with international project partners and open-source communities; provide strategic input to align efforts and foster cross-ecosystem innovation.
- Governance & Mentorship: Support internal teams by setting clear goals, advising on agile methodologies, and ensuring effective collaboration across distributed teams.
- Knowledge Transfer: Produce and review documentation, reports, and technical white papers; facilitate workshops and advisory sessions to promote knowledge sharing.
Duration
From 1st October 2025 to 30th June 2026 (9 months)
Location
Remote (occasionally F2F coordination meetings
Budget
Maximum hourly rate is 45 euros
Maximum work hours per year is 1.800
The maximum estimated cost is 6750 euros per month, and a total of 60.750 euros.
Technical Specifications
Contractors must demonstrate the following requirements:
- +5 years of hands-on experience as systems architect in cloud computing management, orchestration, security and monitoring
Evaluation Criteria
Eligible contractors will be prioritized according to the following criteria:
- Price: Cost per hour
- Education: Bachelor, Master or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Additional Experience: Number of years of experience in projects to improve cloud-edge systems deployment and operation
Administrative Specifications
Before the signature of the contract, the successful selected contractor will be requested to provide the following certificates:
- Positive certificate, issued by the local Social Security Authority, to the effect that the contractor is up-to-date in compliance with its Social Security obligations; or similar document according to the the law of the country in which the contractor is established
- Positive certificate, issued by the local Tax Authority, to the effect that the contractor is up-to-date in compliance with its tax obligations; or similar document according to the the law of the country in which the contractor is established
The successful selected contractor will be given a two weeks period after the notification of the award to provide the above-mentioned documents.
